I watch every NE play. Welker does catch alot of balls but misses alot too. NE sometimes goes on stretches where they don't make a first down for 4 or 5 consecutive drives. Welker usually gets less than 10 yards per catch but every once in awhile he does break one (like the 99 yarder in Week 1) which looks spectacular.
I'm still not convinced that Welker is that good. I credit more the NE scheme who has more-or-less invented a new slot position where Brady and Welker could both excel. He certainly is the go-to on 3rd and short.
The entire NFL has changed. Remember when 3rd and 2 or 3rd and 3 was a running down? Now it's almost 100% a throwing down and smaller players like Welker are benefiting.
