In the late 1990s and early 2000s I spent every Christmas Day in Chinatown watching NBA and having some drinks. It started as a place to go since I was alone and it was the only thing open. It then turned out to be a tradition. Over the years more restaurants and pubs started opening. The Keg on Macleod Trail near Chinook became a place of refuge for restaurant industry staff. I haven't been there in a while, but it's been open every December 25th I driven by in the evening.
Most hotels also have restaurants open as well. I usually went to the Sheraton in Eau Claire since I worked there at one time.
