Default Altering Laptop Sound Output settings

Sorry if the title is a little confusing.

I've been playing around with a nice laptop for a while (Sager). The only problem I've had with it has been with some audio outputs. It seems to nearly muffle a voice to almost nothing (in particular with voices in games). After running some diagnostics and a bit of process of elimination, I think it's because the audio settings that have been causing it (as oppose to a game issue). I'm wondering if anybody has experienced this issue with laptop voices and if there is a way to fix it by altering the computer's built in software.

The laptop lists:
Sound Card: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Sound Card Driver: RTKVHD64.sys

It also uses NVIDIA High Def Audio.

Any help that can be provided would be great.

EDIT - I guess I should note that I've never seen this issue on laptops before...granted, my first one was a bargain HP laptop...
