Had good experiences with Wala Wala Valley reds out of Washington State.

Cougar Crest $50ish
Pepperbridge Cab Sav $75ish

Not wine I would recommend for daily consumption, but they are nice for a special occasion.

These are both spectacular and should be treated with the respect they deserve (decanter, aerator).

I have yet to find a Canadian red that can compete with the Washington State vineyards.
