I have chronic patella tendonitis....essentially tennis elbow of the knee. It happened due to a knee on knee hit that tore my LCL and the tendonitis sort of went undiagnosed or ignored as it wasn't thought to be the important injury so it became chronic while I attended to the LCL injury. Having now been to a specialist and done what physio can do I'm left with a knee that by and large is just fine and I don't notice any discomfort. However, every now and then for no apparent reason the tendonitis will flare up and will pretty much stop me from doing anything beyond easy walking for a couple of days. A bit of fluid build up and of course inflammation of the area accompanies these flares up.
