Default Ipod and Ipad

So . . .

I've got about 20,000 mp3's on my computer. Organization of them is poor, I'm sure tons of them are damaged or aren't actually the song they're labeled to be. Some are no doubt crappy quality.

The girlfriend wants an ipad or ipod for xmas. So I was thinking about getting her an ipod touch.

I use an Nano for going to the gym and running. I hate updating it, I hate organizing music and I the task of organizing my mp3 collection makes me sick to my stomach.

If she's going to use one of these devices it's probably time to figure out how this all works. Back in my teens I was an early adapter of techs. I was burning CD's before anyone I know, I owned the first mp3 player I ever saw at any gym, I showed my friends how to download and use MP3's, first using FTP sites, then napster, ad exchange, newsgroups, limewire, gnutella, etc. I'm now using torrents and frostwire but think it's time to grow up and maybe start paying.

That said - I don't know what to do. Anytime I have something to do around the house I blare my music out my xbox/tv/home theatre via my PC but half I end up skipping as it's some crappy song I have but can't be bothered to delete. I just discovered Zune today and might use that at $10 a month once the trial is over (if I figure out what it actually is).

Do I want to use Zune? Or if I'm looking at buying apple devices do I want to use something else. Do I start downloading music via itunes and putting it on my devices?

I feel so old all of a sudden.

And I still don't know if I should buy her an ipod touch.
