Oddly, one of our most popular love songs is "Every Breath You Take", which is really about creepy obsession. Our movies, novels, and popular music are full of these kinds of messages.
Many women (and some men) can't have a public profile on facebook, or their name in the white pages, because they are harassed by stalkers.
Can't we teach our children that love is not jealous? That love affairs end, and it is not the end of the world. That there are "plenty of fish in the sea". Sting also wrote "if you love someone, set them free". That's the better message.

I think that "Crime of Passion" might be the wrong term for this, whenever I hear Crime of Passion, I think Romeo and Juliet. Something unfortunate, unplanned and spontaneous.
This kid had lots of time to talk himself out of this, and he also took a bunch of people our with them.
Its the time that he had before he made the kill where he was literally hunting them.
From everything I heard this kid was a control freak in the relationship, he was the typical creep that puts on the phony lovey dovey front facing great guy look, while he imposes his will on the girl in the background.
He was a monster, not a jilted lover, he lost control of her, but he didn't lose control of himself.
Crime of obsession would be more like it, he was a jilted stalker.
