A social event is pretty standard.
Meet and Greet in foyer (drinking)
Small talk with people at the same table.
Small talk during dinner/listen to presentations on stage.
More drinking

I'm ok with most of these. I won't dance many songs but I guess it's easier for girl, we can dance in groups and go to the bathroom together.
My original observation was that there were guys who my co-workers brought that wouldn't dance or let their girl dance. I wanted her to join us in a fun group dance to something like Michael Jackson but she looked at him, shook her head and then they soon left. Seems like a waste of a night because she had taken the afternoon off to look all pretty
