Captain Crunch, here are a few things to keep in mind about PvE and PvP.
I've bolded what I find to be the most relevant part of Muffin's reply to you. What this means is that if some 15 year old (or whatever age, d*bags come at all ages in MMO's) decides that he's bored and wants to use his lvl 50 toon to kill your lvl 25 toon over and over and over and over...there is very little you can do about it beyond log off or play a different toon where he's not around.
TOR deals with this better with giving you a couple different rez options...but if you are questing in a specific area, all he has to do is wait until you are there come back one way or another. You'd think that folks like that would have better things to do with their time...but they don't.
I almost always play exclusively on PvE servers, because the last thing I want is some bored punk ruining the 1-3 hours I have to play.
But, some people LIKE that thought, that challenge, or the knowledge that someone could be waiting around to kill them. Sadly, I find that players on PvP servers tend to 'pay that forward', justifying being jerks because "it was done to me, so now it's my turn to do it to someone else."
