He can also sign with teams like GS or MIN that could offer him max deals even though those deals will be less and shorter than the one NO can offer him. Would playing for GS or MIN and take less money be more desirable to him than playing for NO?
All I'm saying is that NO knows that the the above are the scenarios Paul would be facing if they don't trade him this season. Paul could still leave but perhaps, he won't because of how the CBA is structured.

If they don't trade him and place him in the situation you've described there's absolutely no way he resigns, the ill will would be even greater than it is right now.
