Paul is bigger and better than Stoudamire but he relies on his quickness/athleticism and at the age of 26, his next contract will be his biggest one. Will he leave the reportedly 25 millions on the table to go free agent?
If Paul doesn't get traded, NO might actually have a good chance of signing him because they can offer him more money. And all the contenders (Lakers, Clips, Knicks) won't have the cap space to sign him to max contract.

Paul has made it quite clear he has no desire to resign with NO. I'm quite sure he is well aware of the options that will be available to him as a free agent.
