If Paul doesn't get traded, NO might actually have a good chance of signing him because they can offer him more money. And all the contenders (Lakers, Clips, Knicks) won't have the cap space to sign him to max contract.
Paul has made it quite clear he has no desire to resign with NO. I'm quite sure he is well aware of the options that will be available to him as a free agent.
