Yep, I use almost exclusively my own coffee (I grind the medium roast Kirkland beans from Costco).
If you're having trouble with hot water spewing all over the place then you're not getting a tight seal between the My K-Cup and the brewer. If you go back a few pages I go into detail about how to fix this problem with a rubber washer.
