A number of years ago I was involved in an accident at work. I was barely able to drive myself to the hospital ER; and of course there was a bit of discussion about parking. (I hadn't brought my wallet- I was more concerned about limbs remaining attached.) They initially told me to go park on the street- I tried and almost got into an accident. I went back into the ER and went on a bit of a rant about why a person who barely makes it to the hospital has to worry about parking. A city police officer came over to me and I thought "uh-oh; now I'm in trouble."
He asked what the issue was; I told him- and he told security not to tag my car. They didn't. Moral of the story; if the situation really is that dire you don't have to pay for parking at the hospital.
