i remember growing up in CGY and always thought the NE was just a nasty place compared to other areas of the city on average.

It seems to have just continued on in a downward trend, though the same could be said of all areas of the city over the last several years (i remember a guy getting shot right around my mom's place, in a relatively safe neighbourhood in the SE -> think mackenzie/douglasdale area). Of course, with the NE starting off being more unsafe, that trajectory doesn't bode well for the area.
