Spending money on creating activities for kids to do while they grow up is beneficial in the long run as we don't have to spend MORE down the road keeping them from committing a crime, or after they DO create a crime, putting them in jail at $50,000/year.

The US spends $60 billion on inmates in prison every year. Imagine what $60 billion could by in terms of preventive crime measures in the form of recreational centers, etc, etc.
