FIS has always been a bunch of muppets run by a bynch of Euros that remind me of the monopoly guy, complete with eye monacle.
Back when I was racing the ISF (International Snowboard Federation) largely governed the events. As soon as snowboarding got big however, boom! In comes FIS. This resulted in the ISF more or less conceding that FIS was their governing body in order to allow snowboarding into the 98 olympics. One of the best riders at the time (Terje Hakonsen) boycotted the games because of it, when FIS announced they would be judging the events.
