you might also like the 1612 because it has audyssey multieq which will help to correct your room dynamics. there is a post about your receiver here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=21139753

essentially, you have a decent, basic 5.1 receiver. if you are streaming...use the xbox. if you are not committed to the bluray platform...i would take the money that you would have spent on the bluray player and put it towards a higher end receiver.
i should also mention that the more you spend on a receiver, the more you should be aware of the speakers you have. if you have a kick butt receiver, but crappy speakers...you should be looking to invest in the speakers.
just my 2 cents!

Thanks! Older speakers, I'll worry about those next, my current receiver wasn't working properly and didn't have HDMI so I was using red/whites
Yeah, I wasn't thinking I was needing a blue ray - but just wondered what else I would ever hook up an HDMI with? And my only thoughts was if I got a different media player - because the xbox isn't all that great. I think there's better streaming options out there.

But why are you only running 4 speakers?

Sorry, I meant I have 5 speakers, don't have the .1 because I live in a townhouse neighbor probably wouldn't appreciate a sub, I don't watch enough quality content to justify more than 5. or 5.1 less the sub issue.
Going to probably upgrade to the 1612 this week - thanks for that tip!
