Because they're the only one-loss team that's played a decent schedule.
And wouldn't the whole thing be ludicrous with an any sort of 4, 8, or 16 team playoff? If anything it'd be worse because we already know who the best team is and the more teams you add to the playoffs the more games you make LSU play and the the better the odds are that they get knocked off by an inferior team.

This week has nothing to do with the overall debate about a crooked and broken system that time and again has proven to answer very little....but i will say that because the myth continues that "every game means so much", this week settled squat. Its more convoluted than ever as to who should be #2...and IMO and millions of others, THAT should be determined on the football field not in the ivory towers of the NCAA elite.

Way to avoid the question. So this week has nothing to do with the debate? Tell that to Oklahoma and Oregon who had their championship dreams squashed instead of losing seeding in a playoff. The BCS isn't perfect and there might be better options out there, but weeks like these are where the heightened importance of the regular season are really evident.
