It chips and dents everytime someone drops a can or knife on it. It's harder on the knees and ankles (more impact). The only advantages are it's easier to clean especially if you have a pet. I guess it sort of looks better, but that's debatable.
Carpet is much more comfortable and durable.
Sure, you could put a rug on your hardwood floor but doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a hardwood floor?
If you could change back to carpet, would you?

I love our hardwood, but you need to learn to let go of any aspirations of it looking perfect forever. It will get scratched and dinged. Trying to prevent that will just flare up any OCD problems.
I wouldn't go back to carpet because we have kids and a cat. I like being able to see that the floors are clean when something hacks up a hairball or knocks over a cup of juice or whatever.
