The refs are being paid to be there, and its not to much to ask they know the rules. Nor is it ridiculous to question the reffing when their lack of knowledge of the rules and poor reffing puts the players safety at risk.

I bet your kid has never turned over a puck, made a defensive mistake, gone offside, got a penalty... Just like the refs shouldn't ever miss a call (or god forbid, interpret a situation different than the mighty hockey dad).
Throw on the stripes and show me how it's done. Even at my level, I still make mistakes. I even had a nice man tell me to go back to pee-wee last night... He must have taken your class.
Or maybe I have never been involved in the game at a high level...
