I know the rule and I know how its worded. Like I said good in theory not in practice when a hip check is ruled as a hit to the head then there are major problems. Leave the city go to a country team, or Red Deer its called with some discretion whereas Calgary has their refs basically eliminating hitting from the game.
If a hip check is being called a head contact penalty because a head hits glass (or ice), then the official is making a rule interpretation error.

Keep in mind, this is another year with a tremendous learning curve (like when the obstruction calls were pushed). We've done it before and we will do it again.

BIG HIT does not equal HEAD CONTACT! This is something I have been stressing to Officials thast I have been out to see and coach. I have seen the double minor be over-called a bit, but the refs are adjusting.

Personally, I think this new rule is a knee-jerk reaction to crap like "crisis on ice" and some things that happened during the off season. It was a tough year for hockey and it really shook some people up.

Hitting is not in danger of being taken out of the game. The associations create "recreational" non-contact leagues for the helicopter parents who don't want to be worried.
