It wouldn't surprise me to see more of these cases. The role of coach enables access and power to victims, so it would be a natural path for some of these scumbags to pursue.

For years coach's got bypassed in the usual crim' record check protocols as they tended to be volunteer positions and not, in theory, in a position of power.
Of course these kind of things change that quickly.
Its sad but true that any job that involves kids will attract pedo's, they generally arn't evil genius's but they are smart enough to realise they need access to offend, and they are the ones that tend to go the extra mile, the ones that will always volunteer to do the crappy things, cleaning the kit etc.
I worked at a group home many many years ago which was very badly run and went through alot of staff very quickly, I was let go almost straight away when I complained about their child restraint protocols, a few years later a bunch of the ex staff got together to complain, asked me to come to a meeting and give my opinion, as they were complaining away about the management it became clear there was one staff member who'd been around for years, was always available to cover other peoples shifts, often semed to work alone, would take the kids out on outings etc, I thought there was something wrong straight away and started asking them more questions and finally one of the idiots (as they mostly were) blurted out
'I don't think he should be giving the kids baths'. Dropped a dime on the program and had it closed down in a week but they could never nail him on what was clearly grooming behaviour.
