Should know this but don't......looked it up briefly on google but couldn't figure it out.....so CP.....how does it work?

Got a call today from Mastercard today and they said that someone used my credit card for $100 authorization of gas at a 7-11 in Concord, Ontario. Strange....never heard of the place. They asked me if I got gas at 7-11 about a week ago? Yep.

A) How did someone use my card today without physically having it to get gas at a 7-11? I can't imagine that I could walk in to one and just rattle off my credit card number to pay for my gas and not sure if the pay at the pump has a way around this.

B) Should I not get gas at 7-11 anymore or is this just likely random and someone likely got my number off an internet transaction etc.

They are sending me out a new card and I have to complete a report for Mastercard but other than that it is not a big deal. How did this happen though?
