Not commenting on the house itself (not a huge fan of a lot of it), but pretty much everything you said is borderline ignorant. The only thing that looks visually "cheaped out" is the dining set and dishwasher.

No back splash design choice, many people just go with the granite backsplash as they have, you think they would cheap out on $300 worth of tiling when they're dealing with upwards of $7,000 of granite?
Small island Its pretty big given the fact it has a gas cooktop and has to fit within the existing kitchen footprint; given the space, its a solid layout.
Not enough counter top space looks like quite a good amount, and again, has to fit within the actual kitchen itself.

are the things I noticed about the kitchen.
Not really "decked out to the nines", but the additional cabinets on top are pricey. Not useful since you'll need a step ladder to access them god are you serious?. Would have been better as display cabinets, glass with lighting inside.
