Regardless of the shower incident in 02 Sandusky still should have been kicked off the team back in 97. Anything past the first investigation which he admitted to doing wrong in, he should not have been allowed with minors in any capacity. Paterno allowed him the be around kids and there for should be treated as a criminal not a saint that this college town thinks he is. He probably only raised all the money and donations to try to help his conscience out so he could sleep at night because he knew his best friend was molesting children and he let it go on for decades.

I'm not trying to defend Paterno at all, but it's pretty ridiculous to say he only raised money to ease his conscience. How do you explain the decades of fundraising previous to any of this?
Where are you getting that he was aware in 97? I haven't seen anything that indicates that to be the case.
