Although the SAIT students finished second overall, there was fierce competition between their video and another Alberta contestant, Kendra Wannamaker. The contestants engaged in an online voting battle that ultimately gave Wannamaker the lead with 11749 votes, compared to Yanbaeva’s 7281.
“We had a big voting campaign, all of Russia voted for our project,” said Yanbaeva, “There was even an article in the local paper.”
