No, I've never used them nor will I. I'll also probably never open up a sweatshop or own any slaves.
The reason that 99designs is successful is that they've tapped the starving designer market. Half of the problem is that there are so many moderately talented designers that are having trouble finding work, so they resort to doing work on speculation, hoping their work is chosen by a client that knows nothing about design so they can actually get paid. The other half of the problem is that there are organizations like 99designs (and their customers) that have no qualms about exploiting them.
