Beijing area, Xian area and Chengdu area. It wasn't a particularly long trip, but I found parts of China to be exhausting. There was plenty to see in Xian, but the pollution, traffic and people really wore on me. I think I would like to spend more time in Sichuan because the lifestyle seemed to be more relaxed.
The first picture you quoted was at the Summer Palace and the second was at the 798 Art District, both in Beijing.
