Considering how many copies BF3 sold, and how the PC user base has managed to keep up with the consoles number wise, I'd hardly call it an "ant".
But you are right. Appealing to the lowest common denominator with brainless twitch based gameplay using inaccurate analog sticks and auto aim on 6 year old technology in "almost HD" does seem to be the best way to sell a ton of copies.
Remember, popularity != better.
