Default Unsecured police firearms in hockey change rooms

hey CP

i'm hoping some of you that might be members of law enforcement could explain this one to me....

tonight after hockey, i'm walking out of the arena with a buddy of mine and in walks a cop - in full rcmp gear with a hockey bag over his shoulder and a stick in his hand.

he heads to the change rooms where i assume he got ready for an 11pm game.

now here's where i'm confused... it looked like he came right from work - he had his rcmp uniform on, still had on the bullet proof vest and had his gun in its holster. is it common practice to leave a fire arm in a hockey change room?? it's the first time i've seen it! i have no clue if the gun was loaded - my buddy and i were both sort of shocked

**i'm not sure that it makes a difference with the rcmp (being that it's a national police force and i'd assume they'd have a nation wide policy on something like this), but i'm in BC
