My brother was a project manager for a corporation. The money was unbelieveable but after a fair number of years the long hours and stress was burning him out and his mental health was suffering badly. He couldn't walk away because his job defined who he was as a person. The US economy goes in the toilet and gets let go. He was unemployed for a year and half before he found another job. He makes alot less money and has less responsibility. The new job he got wasn't because he was unmotivated or uninspired. He had to make a living like everyone else and took what he could get, just like many do today.
I had a very candid discussion with a guy one day at a pub near my work. The guy has been working a very menial job at the Walmart for more years than I can remember. I was just talking with him, and it turned out he was a MRC kid that dropped out. He is 28 now, and a super nice guy. I asked bluntly, don't you think you could put the skills you did learn to work somehow, and find somethng better then what you are doing?

He was blunt back, and said "Why should I? My mom puts me up, I live 2 blocks from work, and I am happy just playing Computer games in my spare time. Some people ridicule me for it, but to me, it is comfortable, and I am happy." On one hand, I have the utmost respect that the guy is just saying F it, I am just going to be me no matter what anyone thinks. On the other hand, I see a totally uninspired person, that will likely regret his choice one day, when he realizes there is so much more to it all.

To me that is an uninspired individual, just doing the minimum to get by.

When I see an immigrant of some kind working 15 hours a day to make a better life, and support their family working 2 jobs like that, yes my heart bleeds to a certain extent, as I know a lot of those people are qualified professionals in their home countries. Those are not the people I am accusing of being 'uninspired'.
