Favourite live song vs album version?
The other music threads got me wondering about this. It doesn't matter if you saw it live in concert, or was recorded live, but what song can you think of that the live version has that extra life that you just don't hear on the studio album?
For myself, I can immediately come up with 2.
Run Like Hell by Floyd. I always loved the tune, but on TV saw them play at the end of one of the British music festivals. It was raining, the mud was everywhere, it had just gotten dark, but when the first chords were struck the crowd went ballistic and the band seemed to use that to take the song to the next level. Rain falling through the beams of light, croud going nuts, Gilmour giving it his all. It just all came together.
Born to Run by Springsteen. Listening to it off the live boxset he released back in '85 (?), I am just grabbed by the energy. Listening to the original studio version now sounds subdued. Whenever I hear the live version, I just feel the energy coming out of the speakers. Amazing.
