iPhone's problem here is that google doesn't need to port that feature over to iPhone and can keep it as a selling point for android devices. A couple of years ago Apple bought a map company and I can see them ditching Google maps in iOS6. That way they could do their own turn by turn navigation and not be reliant on their main competitor.
