So, I'm not allowed to comment on my thoughts, then? I was their target demographic for some time. They were able to pull me back in for a few months to give Cata content a try through what looked to be (and was) interesting lore.
The announced expansion doesn't even draw any interest at all from me to give it a try. Given the amount of time I had sunk into the game (I think, all totaled up, my /played time was around 365 days...) you'd think that I would be the exact sort of person they'd want to try to hook back in. I clearly like what they have done in the past. You'll also note a couple of posts up, I straight up know that I'm not really their target demographic anymore.
But like another poster, I have to wonder what their choice "target demographic" IS. It can't be new players anymore. Look at the startup cost:
WoW Battle Chest - $20US you get Vanilla WoW and TBC (not bad, actually)
The Wrath of the Lich King - $40 US
Cataclysm - $40 US
So right there, before you can even really start playing, you need to fork over $100, and that's not including monthly game time and the soon-to-be-needed new xpack, which is likely to retail for around $40.
That's a hefty chunk of change for a new player to cough up to play.
You'd think they'd be going after old customers with great gusto, and trying to keep every single one they've got.
