I gave the album a listen front to back last week and honestly... I didn't mind it. At first blush I'd rank it higher than ReLoad, but that's just my opinion.
Is it great? No, but it's not horrible either. And hey, if after 30 years Metallica wants to record a self indulgent album with one of their idols they've earned that right.
But I can see why an album with Metallica on the cover is going to be scrutinized for being "off brand" for lack of a better term. It says Lou Reed & Metallica, so there is certain expectations when it's billed as such. If it were Lou Reed ft Metallica people might not be bagging on it so hard.
