I realize that the team has a surplus of receivers and running backs but those 1st round picks are going to be needed to supplement the defense which IMO is the teams weakness. To top it off there's no garantee Palmer is an upgrade on Campbell especially based on recent performance so the Raiders could be giving up the farm for a player of the level they could have signed in the offseason.

I guess I could assimilate this to the Flames trading a couple of 1st round picks for Spezza. Sure it would be okay this year and next year but down the road the team would be paying dearly for short term gain and like with Palmer we know Spezza has shortcomings so it's not even garanteed to be a homerun in the present.

I have to believe Al Davis would never have made this deal as this is all Hue Jackson. Oh well I'll just have to be happy the season may not be meaningless now as with Boller starting it would be.

If I'm a Bengals fan it's definately an early Christmas. Great trade for them.
I dunno about that....it was trademark Davis to trade picks for older players...some worked and other didnt, but the man was never shy about targetting other teams extra pieces particularly older and expensive ones.
