Just got back from the game. I have a few notes:
A very nice crowd there tonight. 5450 people (and of course very loud because there were $2 beers).
There were 6 NHL scouts there tonight. One from the Red Wings and the other from the Panthers. Didn't see who the others were. I guess the Florida scout didn't want to sit with the other scouts so he came down and I ended up sitting just about next to him. He got up and left and left a some papers behind, so I took a little looksy.
On one of the sheets was a lineup of the Heat and Rockford. He had circled the following players:
- Krys Kolanos
- Quintin Laing
- Paul Byron
- Mitch Wahl
- Ben Walter
- Dustin Sylvester
- Jordan Henry
- Ryan Howse
I'm not sure if that's who he was focusing on or what, but he was definitely scouting the Heat, not Rockford. He also had a notepad that he was writing notes on, but he wrote in like size 4 Ariel font haha. Couldn't read it. Anyways, discuss all you'd like. That's all I could see.
As for the game. It was very exciting (after the first period). The Heat played very lazy for about half the first period. The rest of the game they played as well as the Flames did against the Canadiens the other night. They were forechecking and backchecking very well. They were forcing turnovers so much that the Ice Hogs had NO sustained pressure for the whole third period.
The reason they had no sustained pressure was because of two very quick goals (within 46 seconds of eachother) by Rheault (from Desbiens and Mikkelson) and Nemisz (from Sylvester).
Nemisz was the best player on the ice all game. He was fast, strong, and very good along the boards. His puck handling skills are unbelievable, not to mention the way he can dish the puck. He really is an all-round player.
The lines tonight were:
Sylvester-Walter-Nemisz
Desbiens-Byron-Rheault
Bouma-Laing-Meyer
MacMillan-Patterson-Howse
Piskula-Brodie
Wilson-Mikkelson
Breen-Henry
Irving
That first line was nuts. Sylvester is surprisingly strong on the puck and fast as hell. He got a couple of breakaways tonight, along with Byron and Rheault.
I didn't see Howse or MacMillan on the ice after the first, but they were on the bench. They may have gotten one or two shifts, but I didn't notice. They were both awful tonight. Slow and unmotivated. Oh, well one game. They can turn it around.
Anyways, awesome game tonight. 3-0 so far! Go Heat!
Edit - Oh, and Henry got a stick in the face late in the 3rd period and didn't return.
