I never like being chained to a company, for any reason. It's why, despite their drawbacks, I am a Shaw cable user. I've had one cell phone contract in my life, and when it ended I was so damn happy, but there are people who don't mind it one bit. You can usually upgrade two years in, start the contract over, and upgrade your phone.. but I just hate the contract. It limits what I can do in negotiating, and man I've gotten some great deals from Shaw and Telus over the years from being contract free.
My Dad and I just got my Mom an iPhone 4 from Best Buy last Sunday, so hearing the drop to 90 is annoying but not a big deal at all. My Dad didn't mind the 3 years, they both had their last phones for 3 plus years, and with their iPad I think she really wanted an iPhone.

Doesn't Best Buy have 30 day price protection?
