My upgrade was incredibly long but actually quite problem free. 2 computers, 2 iPhones and an iPad took me late into the night but most of that was sitting around and waiting.
Cleansing my system of MobileMe was a bit of a terrifying experience but it all worked out. I just exported everything into a folder, logged out of MobileMe on my computer disabled all MobileMe accounts (leaving most everything blank) and then imported all the backups. iCloud picked them all up and fired them off to my other devices. It was scary but hitch-less.
I was quite concerned as my wife and I share an ID. When it came time to set up her iMessages I was a little freaked out as it would only let me select my own name (same with FaceTime). Turns out you can just create a second Apple ID and enter that for several of the services without signing you out of the master ID. This made things much easier.
Complaints:
- No gestures on iPad 1... I generally don't think Apple does things JUST to make you upgrade, but in this case I see no other reason for its omission.
- Location reminders not working on 3GS isn't something I care about as I'll be in a 4S by next week (hopefully), but it still sucks. Again I'm not sure why this would be left out. What's more annoying is that they didn't say it wasn't coming (same with above), which makes for a very unpleasant surprise. Poor form Apple.
- iMessages don't show on both devices. You can initiate from either, but incoming only goes to one, which doesn't make the experience very seamless.
All in all I'm very pleased. Some kinks to work out but considering the volume of data being moved I can't believe it's going as smoothly as it is.
