Go to Haight and Ashbury (not sure if I spelled that right?). It was apparently where the whole hippie movement started back in the 60's, and there are some pretty cool shops along the way. Shopworkers are more than willing to teach you how to smuggle bongs across the border as well!
Fishermans wharf is cool, but pricey. Alcatraz is a definite go to, and you can do that straight from Fishermans. There are also a lot of cool shopping outlets you can check out if you wanted to go shopping (North Face, etc). Half Moon bay is pretty neat to see if you want to see gigantic wave surfing, there's a break called "Mavericks" that is nearby that when working, features some of the largest waves ever paddled into. Cool to see if it's going off.
It's a pretty cool city, for sure.
