The PDF insight was from a statement made by the Amazon CEO earlier in this thread. I only remembered it because that's my primary use for such a device as well. Not sure about 3rd party apps, but I think it has full access to the Amazon app store, which probably contains many 3rd party apps - but possibly not the one you are needing.
