In my opinion, Volkswagon and basically all German cars are built to last 5 years. Japaneese cars like Honda and Toyota are built to last 7. The domestic brands are the same 5 years. If you buy a Volkswagon, after 5 years the parts are very expensive. Look into the consumer guide for recommendations on specific models.
