I think athletes like him could be really good football players, the question is, would he risk getting injured and jeopardizing his basketball career?

Well no NBA players will be crossing over to the NFL this year, that's for sure, but there are definitely players that could do it if they dedicated themselves full time. You'd have to be insane to leave the NBA for the NFL though, I don't recall an epidemic of severe brain injuries in basketball.
