I don't think they'll be doing a big boxed set though, from what I understand it'll come out in chunks.

The effects would be weapons fire (that effect would be too small to blow up from 480 to 1080. I've tried and it looks like crap). I imagine the planets will be remade when enterprise orbits and shuttles. Those would all be shot on green screen in 1080 and the planets made individually. With a team of 10 Effects Editors it would take about a month per season to remake as most of the effects will be recycled. The effects are not as sophisticated as the CGI used in movies. However, making it sound like it will be as sophisticated will help boost sales.
