I think it has to do with the tourist effect. I'm sure if you actually lived in Ibiza or New Orleans, their events would seem less exotic. You have to admit though, how many other cities of one million people or over, pretty much shut down and party for 10 days straight?

Think about it, in other places people have Cowboy themed house parties, and also dress up Western for Halloween. My guess is way less people do that outside of the 10 days in the summer in Calgary because it's rather redundant.
