Just being honest and not inviting us to begin with would have been the best way to do it instead of giving people false hope. Ya it's just a game, but playing EASHL is pretty much the only reason I buy the game every year.
Thankfully there's lots of games coming out in the next few months to distract me.

I can tell you as someone who isn't inside the inner workings of the Fata's management (so I don't speak for the team), but the team leadership has been incredibly resistant to the idea of doing cuts, and I've been bringing it up for years now. Even during this summer I once again re-awakened my quest to have two fata's teams, one for frequent team players and one for casual gamers. Even then, they resisted.
Arguably, had they taken a more direct course from the beginning, there wouldn't be as many hurt feelings, but you've also got look at your own play. It's not a personal thing.

It's tough for guys like Kip and I who have been around since the start. I think we're the only two long term guys who aren't on the team and still play fairly regularly. It sucks that after being with the team this long we're suddenly not good enough

I too was on the original team, and while I didn't really think I should have to tryout (not because of seniority, but because I have history with my teammates) , I did it anyway because it's not a big deal, and by playing a solid team first game, it wasn't an issue to make the team. I don't have a bunch of boost slots of maxed out stats or legend cards.
I can tell you though, it sucked not being able to play for the fatas last year and the year before because I didn't want to deal with my defensive partner making me look like a dummy most of the time. It's not winning that is the be all end all, it's having fun. One player having fun at the expense of the other isn't a sustainable game scenario, and I think this is the eventual culmination of that.

One thing in your game that we'll like to see improve from you in is your cycle and play making ability in the offensive zone. While you cut down on shooting, we want to see progression in offensive awareness so you make better decision in picking the best option in knowing when you should pass to continue the cycle, maneuver with the puck, take the shot (wrister or slap shot), or dump the puck into the corner.
