I don't believe party leaderships in Canada have ever been chosen in first-past-the-post votes, they're always a process of elimination like this. They could have done another run-off, but doing it the way they did streamlines the process and presumably yields the same result.

This is based on the assumption that the current standards must apply. If the final ballot was to run 3 candidates and the highest tally won, it would force the members into actually making a choice - do they want to vote for somebody they like or against somebody they don't like. The current system allows for both options and I don't think that is a good way to go about it. To their credit, they used this to their advantage as I don't know a thing about her but just don't vote Mar...think of the kids! THINK OF THE KIDS!
I think she will find out pretty quickly that making the decisions is a tad more difficult than bitching about them.
