I don't believe party leaderships in Canada have ever been chosen in first-past-the-post votes, they're always a process of elimination like this. They could have done another run-off, but doing it the way they did streamlines the process and presumably yields the same result.

Exactly, the only difference is that this would have been drawn out over another few weeks, subjecting us to more campaign garbage and wasted money.
Congrats to the Redford team, I was surprised to wake up and see she ended up winning (stopped watching when it looked like Mar had it early on).
