If the state or province where the merchant is located prohibits earlier termination, then the amount you paid for the voucher will expire five (5) years from the date the voucher is issued. The prepaid portion of the voucher will not expire in states and provinces where it is prohibited by law.
Any idea if they should still honour it? It is strange that they don't have anyone picking up the phone.

Ducay and rd_aaron pretty much answered the question for you.
Gift Cards can not expire in Alberta, but vouchers may.
If a voucher expires, the voucher is still worth the original amount that you paid for it.
