Default FC's 2012 Draft Thread

Who needs Bob McKenzie and his top-10 for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft? We've got our October top-30 out already, after releasing a preliminary top-60 over the summer!

Besides, a top-10 isn't going to do Calgary Flames fans any good if they're picking after 14 anyway (optimism, right?).

The draft has been called 'The Year of the Defensemen', and we've got 14 currently ranked in the first round and another three as honourable mentions at this stage in the game.

Judging by the McKenzie thread, a lot of discussion on Dumba vs. Reinhart, and a lot of comparisons between Dumba and Phaneuf.

Having seen both those guys play junior, I don't think it's an overly interesting comparison. It comes from both playing in Red Deer, both being offensive and both throwing big hits. That's about it, though.

There hasn't been a defenseman in the WHL that can move like Dumba in quite some time. It's his biggest asset. He doesn't have the size like Phaneuf did, but he'll still hit hard. He'll sometimes put himself out of position to do so like Dion, but in his own end he is certainly better positionally.

As for Reinhart, I can see him being a slider this year, as can our scouting director Dan Stewart:

Quote:
I hate to say it but Edmonton Oil King defenseman Griffin Reinhart has got to get his game going as he looks sluggish and may have regressed in his development early this season. While he has huge future potential and was exciting last season before the injuries, a sloppy skating stride and non-engaging play has hurt him with scouts early this season. Couple his early unimpressive play with the play of some of the other impressive prospects available and he could see his way down many lists.

I'll keep this thread alive throughout the year to prompt discussion on the 2012 NHL Entry Draft!

EDIT:

For Calgary Puckers, we've set up a discount on both our Season Pass (October release, February release, 2012 Draft Guide), as well as individual issues. Discount is 25% off regular price.

FC's Introudction to the 2012 Draft - October release @ $4.49 (regularly $5.99)

2011-12 Season Pass @ $19.49 (regularly $25.99)
